IQMR 2026

Code of Conduct

IQMR is committed to providing a welcoming, professionally engaging, and safe experience for all participants, and to building an ethos that supports networking, collaboration, and mentorship. Participants contribute to creating and maintaining this environment. Accordingly, all participants are required to adhere to this professional code of conduct for the duration of IQMR in all Institute spaces, physical and digital.

All participants should demonstrate professional respect and good will with all members of the IQMR community. Treating each other with respect, optimism, and kindness facilitates and encourages the free academic interchange that is critical to the Institute’s success.

Harassment and any other form of unprofessional conduct undermine IQMR’s mission and contravene its principles. We thus take extremely seriously any incidence of harassment in any form. Such behavior will not be tolerated in any Institute venue, Institute-related social event or community gathering, or online Institute communication channel.

Harassment is understood as any behavior that threatens or demeans another person or group, or that produces an unsafe environment. It includes, but is not limited to, offensive verbal comments or non-verbal expressions related to gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, age, religious or political beliefs; sexual, sexualized, or discriminatory images in public (including online) spaces; deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following; offensive or discriminatory photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention.

Conflict Resolution

  1. Incident – If you are being harassed or notice that someone else is being harassed, and you feel comfortable speaking with the offender, please inform the offender that they have affected you negatively. The offending behavior may be unintentional, and the offender and offended may resolve the incident by having that initial discussion themselves.

  2. Escalation – If direct engagement is not a good option for you for any reason, if the offender insists that they did not offend, or if the offender is actively harassing you, contact the IQMR Operations Manager, the CQMI Associate Director, or an IQMR Co-Director via Slack or email. As appropriate to guarantee impartiality, IQMR leadership may escalate the incident to the relevant specialized offices at Syracuse University.

  3. Sanction – If a participant engages in harassing behavior, IQMR leadership may take actions they deem appropriate, including (but not limited to) warning the offender or requesting that they not interact with one or more others; expelling the offender from activities or events; or banning the offender from a chatroom, Slack workspace, or mailing list. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

  4. Wider community response to Incident – If the incident results in a sanction that is publicly known, the community should support the sanction and any discussions of the sanction should strive to be constructive. The community should also seek to support (publicly or privately) those harmed by the incident.

IQMR values participants’ engagement with the Institute community, and their efforts to make the Institute a safe and friendly space for all participants.
