Welcome to the IQMR 2026 Weekend Workshops
The “Advances in Qualitative and Multi-Method Research” (AQMMR) Workshop and the “Emerging Methodologists Workshop” (EMW) are for invited participants only. IQMR participants are encouraged to spend the weekend getting to know each other better and enjoying the beautiful central New York region.
AQMMR & EMW: General Information
Each year, two workshops take place at IQMR on the weekend in the middle of the Institute’s two-week run. The goal of both workshops is to encourage all scholars — junior and senior — to develop new methods and enhance existing methods for collecting and analyzing qualitative data, and to generate innovative techniques for combining qualitative and quantitative methods. Both workshops also aim to broaden and deepen the community of scholars developing, teaching, and writing on such methods and to encourage connections and collaboration within the QMMR community.
Both workshops are “pre-read”: participants should be familiar with all of the work being presented at their workshop.
Please contact Diana Kapiszewski (dk784@georgetown.edu) or Sebastian Karcher (skarcher@syr.edu) for questions about the workshops.

Travel to and from Syracuse
Travel to and from Syracuse is paid for by IQMR. We ask that participants book their own round-trip economy class travel to and from Syracuse. Travel arrangements should be made by April 15, 2026.
Since the EMW begins early in the morning on June 21, we ask that participants please arrive on Saturday, June 20. Likewise, as the workshop concludes in the late afternoon on Sunday, and there will be some festivities that evening, we encourage participants to book return travel for Monday, June 22.
Participants who are flying should book economy-class round-trip tickets into and out of Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR). Please secure the most economical rate that you can. Participants who are flying domestically should check with Diana or Sebastian before booking round-trip travel costing more than $800; participants who are flying internationally should check with Diana or Sebastian before booking round-trip travel costing more than $1,500.
Hotel in Syracuse
Lodging in Syracuse is paid for by IQMR. We will make reservations for all participants at the Collegian Hotel, located at 1060 E Genesee St., Syracuse, New York 13210. We will plan for participants to arrive the night prior to, and to depart the day after, the EMW.
Reimbursements
We will reimburse participants for travel to and from Syracuse. Participants who fly or travel by bus or train will also be reimbursed for ground transportation to and from the airports or stations that they use. Participants who drive to Syracuse will be reimbursed for roundtrip mileage from their home to Syracuse at the mileage rate then in force at Syracuse University. Parking is free at the hotel.
To facilitate the reimbursement process, participants should upload receipts for flights, trains, and buses to a secure Dropbox folder (the link for which was conveyed via email) as soon as they purchase their tickets. Participants who drive to and from Syracuse should upload a Google map print-out showing the round-trip mileage. Participants should retain receipts for ground transportation associated with their travel to and from Syracuse and submit them to the same secure Dropbox folder after their travel concludes.
We will provide all meals during the workshop day(s) and so will not reimburse for meal expenses.
We will aim to transmit reimbursements within two months after the workshop. Please note that time frames for processing reimbursements can vary.
Tax Document (W-9/W8-BEN)
In order to pay honoraria and reimbursements, participants must complete one of the tax forms that was sent to them via email and upload them to the secure Dropbox folder that was conveyed in the same email by April 15. Participants should not email tax forms to us.
